Reflection Paper for E-portfolio
Posted on Wiki http://Tina-isu465eportfolio.wikispaces.com/ and in E-portfolio Binder
1. This is my Reflection Paper on the Reading Strategies E-Portfolio Project which includes a description of the organizational logistics of this project. It explains the cross references, how I will utilize the E-portfolio list of strategies and the accompanying resource binder, how this E-portfolio will change the way I currently teach, the goals I intend to achieve now that I have constructed this portfolio of strategies, how I will successfully reach diverse learners, how I will integrate technology and instructional grouping with it, and what changes overall I would make to this reading strategies project. This Reflective Paper provides information for quick access to all areas of this reading strategies project and it is located on a tab labeled “Reflective Paper” on my Wiki at the site above under my name at the top of this page. This reflection is also located at the beginning of my E-portfolio Reading Strategies Resource Binder. I have included 25 strategies even though only 20 were required because I found other strategies I wanted to utilize and have easy access to on a regular basis.
can be found as follows: ØInstructional Grouping component: 1. Pre-Reading – Initiating Tab = Genre Lesson with Layered
Book Lesson;
2. During Reading – Constructing Tab = Guided Reading with
with Layered Book Lesson; and
3. During Reading – Constructing Tab = Pass It On Lesson.
rationale with these lessons is provided under the bullet point RATIONALE under all three strategies at the tabs noted above.
rationale with these lessons is provided under the bullet point RATIONALE under all three strategies at the tabs noted above.
ØThe Technology component was conducted in the: 1. Edgar Allen Poe PowerPoint Lesson
2. Digital Photo Story Lesson.
The two technology lessons are under the Technology Tab in E-portfolio Reading Strategies Wiki and Resource Binder.
-------The Technology details follow under the description of the respective lessons.
The E-portfolio Reading Strategies on the Wiki and the associated E-portfolio Reading Strategies Resource Binder correspond to each other according to the referenced categories listed below and within these the individual reading strategies are numbered:
ØPre-Reading or Initiating Strategies ØDuring Reading or Constructing Strategies ØAfter Reading or Utilizing Strategies ØTechnology Reading Strategies
§cross references from the Wiki to the Resource Binder will be easily made because both have specific references to each document, article, or resource and are organized under the categories of Pre-Reading, During Reading, After Reading, and Technology Reading Strategies. They are numbered in the same way within each category in both the Wiki and the Resource Binder.

·I will use the reading strategies contained in the E-portfolio Wiki and Resource Binder when I plan and execute lessons within my 8th Grade Language Arts Curriculum. Easy access is available in both the E-portfolio Wiki and Resource Binder to retrieve ready to use and ready to copy material. The Wiki and Resource Binder Tabs and numbered reading strategies are identical in both locations. Therefore, all ready to use and ready to copy material are organized in this way as well.
·Sharing will take place with colleagues by allowing them to also utilize the Wiki which I can share with them as members by giving the wiki site name to them and with the resource binder by making copies for the teachers.
§This Reading Strategy E-portfolio Wiki and Resource Binder Project will change what I do by allowing me to have a quick reference with easy accessible already created reading strategy resources so that I won’t spend needless time searching here and there for resources or making new ones. I have a readily accessible list of reading strategies for my students for before, during, and after reading, as well as for instructional grouping, and using technology. Therefore, I will save time which I can then allocate toward more important tasks, such as planning well thought out, creative, and detailed lesson plans, grading papers, assisting students, and discussing with and helping colleagues with issues regarding our curriculum, as well as other teacher-student related issues. This E-portfolio will enrich my classroom curriculum and will provide ways for me to be successful at teaching students what they need to learn.
§My goals for putting this Reading Strategy E-portfolio Project into action is that I will reference the Reading Strategy E-portfolio Wiki and/or Resource Binder each and every time I plan my reading lessons in order to integrate the well thought out strategies for before, during, after reading, as well as using instructional grouping, and technology to teach students. The E-portfolio Resource Binder will be accessible from my desk and I will use it weekly (maybe daily) as I design and write my lesson plans. §The goals I hope to achieve include the following:
ØTo reach diverse learners. Reaching diverse learners should be important to every classroom teacher. Each reading strategy in the Reading Strategy E-portfolio Wiki and Resource Binder has an element of reflection on teaching with diversity in mind. Keeping focused upon the diversity of my students and their unique learning styles will help me reach each student and improve their reading skills, strategies, and knowledge. ØTo embed technology within my Language Arts curriculum. Within my Reading Strategy E-portfolio Wiki and Resource Binder I have included strategies specifically devoted to technology usage. This will keep me focused on broadening my students’ knowledge and skills of specific computer software and hardware for learning, which will also prepare students for life outside of school in an increasingly technologically-focused world. ØTo continue using collaborative/instructional grouping for greater learning capacity for my students. Evidence suggests students learn better from their own peers and this makes it imperative that I use this type of instruction within my own curriculum to promote learning and critical thinking skills.
§The changes I might make to this project** would be to perhaps organize the project according to the lessons being taught. For instance, beginning in August, we read “Flowers for Algernon” and “The Monkey’s Paw,” and if the resource binder was organized chronologically by the curriculum’s lessons from August through May it would be even more easily accessible and conducive to the teacher’s lesson planning schedule for the year. You know that you could add another wiki page, and do exactly this. Make a list that link to the strategies in the school year order that you use them! That's why the technology is helpful! :)
Otherwise, I don’t think there is anything else I would change. I think this E-portfolio will improve my teaching of reading and associated strategies and I am looking forward to utilizing it.
